Electric is the way to go......... : Brinkmann 810-7080-7 Gourmet Electric Smoker and Grill with Vinyl Cover, Black

This thing works pretty well. I smoked chicken on it first and it was great. Then I tried a whole brisket and it worked well also. I cooked the brisket (fourteen pounds) for fourteen hours. I added a few wood chips every couple of hours and I couldn't tell the difference between real fire smoked meat and electric. It doesn't get quite hot enough to grill a steak without throwing on chips to cause a little flame to come up. I will update this if there are any changes. We will see how long the electric element lasts. I suspect it will last long enough to be a good bargain.

The only problem is that the smoker was slightly bent when it arrived. I don't think this happened in shipping since the little access door on the side which was in with the screws and hardware was bent also. Is it a second? Probably. If you want to pay double the amount I paid ($109) then you can get an undamaged one although the damage is not enough to effect the performance or even notice unless you look really closely at it.

Turkey took too long to smoke : Brinkmann 810-7080-8 Gourmet Electric Smoker and Grill with Vinyl Cover, Red

I have owned a Brinkman smoker for 14 years...not this one, but the more simple model that costs about $85.00. I have smoked some turkeys, many chickens, salmon, pork roasts....All with great success. Two things I can think of might help with your low temperature problem:

1. Did you use an prolongation cord with it? I once had the same problem you had when I used a long prolongation cord. Troubleshooting, I searched the hand-operated that came with it and found that it says not to use long prolongation cords (you'll have to crusade your hand-operated for the maximum optimum length). Please don't give up on your smoker! I get much more tender, juicy results than I do with my flambeed grilled meats!! ha ha! The smoker is easy to use, no fuss and not too bad of a mess to clean if you line your water pan with heavy duty foil! I use Easy-Off oven cleaner on my two racks and water pan and be sure to rinse them very well. I can leave for four hours and my food will be ready when I return (just be sure your water pan always has liquid in it) When we have company, they Love the smoked flavor. Hope this helps. Once I eliminated the long prolongation cord, all was well.
2. Were you peeking at your turkey or basting it? My lid also has a small gap through which the smoke escapes, but it doesn't work on it. You cannot constantly open the lid to peek or baste as this allows the heat to fly and it will take a while for the smoker to reach the allowable temperature again. No Need to baste with a smoker! The meat is always juicy.

I found your tell because after 14 years, I'm seeing rust on my smoker, which was one of the best of our wedding gifts. I never owned a cover for it but always stored it in the carport when not in use. This last year, however, it spent much time neglected surface (I have four children now) and I wanted to study smokers to find the change for our trusty old one!

I would very suggest a Brinkman galvanic smoker to anyone who is inspecting purchasing one (sorry, I've never tried other brand). It's so much easier than grilling because you never need to watch over your food to forestall charring. I guess you could say a smoker is to a grill as a crockpot is to an oven, except that unlike crockpot food, the meat will appear beautifully golden-browned with No blackness.

Took about an hour to assemble while watching Tv. Ended up it was missing a part that holds the rack (V Clip). I called Brinkman to get a replpacement part but they never returned my calls. I emailed them and ultimately got someone there to order the part for me. Now, just waiting for the part to come so I can grill.

I have enjoyed the Brinkmann grill for over 12 years. I have used it with and without the water pan. I have found that if you clean it after use and then lightly coat the insides with oil, the grill will give you years of great smoking. I store mine inside and recommend you at least use the cover.
